RESTON, Va. – Sept. 12, 2005 – IPIX Corporation (NASDAQ: IPIX), a leading provider of digital surveillance and 360-degree immersive imaging solutions announced today the deployment of their CommandView cameras at Chicago's Loyola University.
IPIX cameras have been installed at the Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA) as part of the school's ongoing security infrastructure upgrade to ensure the safety and security of priceless artifacts and visitors to the museum. Loyola has undertaken a security overhaul over the past two years to fully automate and integrate its security system. Additional IPIX cameras have been installed at the campus police emergency response center and campus buildings including the historical Mundelein Center.
The university awarded IPIX partner Johnson Controls the contract to implement the state-of-the-art security systems. "This installation is the most high-tech video system in Chicago today," said Jim Gompers, the school's security consultant. "It is leaps and bounds beyond what anybody else is doing. The support that we've gotten from IPIX has been phenomenal. Designing around digital, 360-degree field-of-view technology enabled the school to install fewer cameras." he continued.
While the museum plans to use 27 of IPIX's inconspicuous, flush-mounted cameras, the infrastructure upgrade included flexibility in camera placements to ensure 100 percent coverage of museum properties at any time. Another six dome cameras have been installed in the vault and storage area.
The cameras will also serve a marketing purpose. LUMA will show live parts of exhibits on its Web site to promote its shows. The LUMA installation, designed to maintain the architectural aesthetics of the building, is set to open by the end of September, Gompers said.
Gompers said the unobtrusive cameras were essential for LUMA. "If people walk into the museum and see all these cameras, they would not have been comfortable," he said. "This design lets patrons enjoy the space without feeling all these cameras on them."
More installations of IPIX's 360-degree cameras are planned. A camera in lobby of the graduate school building will enable views of two corridors, a lobby area and each lane of pedestrian access, as well as the building's security control desk and entrance.
"We had a lot of black and white cameras around campus that we were controlling with VHS, and IPIX helped us upgrade that," said Frank Dale, a manager of technical services for campus safety "We just did a new communications center for the police department, and we saw IPIX in action and thought that would be a great addition. It's the perfect application for us."
"Campus security is an urgent priority, and we applaud Loyola University's aggressive efforts to upgrade its technology," said Clara Conti, president and chief executive officer of IPIX. "IPIX is proud to partner with Loyola and Johnson Controls to have our best-in-class technology help secure the students and faculty of the institution."
