IPIX Immersive Video FAQ's: Section 3

Camera Installation and Operation

  1. Where should I mount an IPIX video camera?
Mounting of the camera is very dependent on the location and needs of the installation.
  2. What mounting options are available for IPIX video cameras?
IPIX offers a wide range of mounting accessories for mounting to walls, poles buildings and ceilings.
  3. Can I flush mount an IPIX Camera in a ceiling?
Yes. The Command View Dome (CV-D2000) can be mounted to a ceiling. The Command View Camera (CV-N2000) camera can be mounted to drop or dry wall ceilings using the Recessed Dome Kit (CV-RDK) or Flush Mount Kit (CV-FMK).
  4. Can the CommandView Dome be mounted on a wall?
Yes it can. IPIX also provides a Corner Mount Kit for mounting to exterior corners of a building.
  5. What outdoor temperature range can these cameras work in?
IPIX cameras work from -10 to 45C. The CV-D2000-XT and CVS camera system work to -40C.
  6. Are IPIX CommandView cameras resistant to vandalism and flying objects?
The CV-D2000 is vandal resistant. It uses a cast aluminum enclosure and high impact polycarbonate dome which is fastened with tamper resistant screws.
  7. What are the camera power requirements?
The InSight and CommandView cameras can use 12Vdc or 24Vac power sources. The CV-D2000, CV-N2000 and IS-N2000 consume 4 watts, worst case. The CV-D2000-XT consumes 28 watts maximum. The CVS-C4000 and CVS-C4500 cameras operate only with 24VAC power sources. The maximum draw is 2.6A and 5.7A respectively.
  8. At what light levels (sensitivity in lumens) do the cameras operate?
IPIX cameras will operate to less than 1 lux. IPIX offers day/night versions of CommandView cameras that operate at lower light levels, as well as under IR illuminated environments.
  9. Can I use an InSight camera with an IPIX fisheye lens to perform immersive imaging?
InSight cameras are not configured for immersive imaging. Only CommandView cameras can perform immersive imaging. The CommandView CV-N2000 is the camera with the same form factor as the InSight IS-N2000.
  10. Is this a special lens?
Yes, IPIX CommandView cameras use a 185° fisheye lens that has been specifically designed for multi-megapixel use.
  11. What is the zoom range for CommandView cameras?
IPIX cameras use digital zoom which has a usable zoom range of 4-6X.
  12. Can I operate the InSight camera at faster than 30 frames/second?
Yes you can, but it would require reducing the frame size to 640x480 or utilizing a higher JPEG compression.
  13. Can multiple people view and control different directions from a single camera?
Every image that is delivered from an IPIX camera provides the full 360° field of view, or fisheye image. IPIX immersive imaging technology provides the algorithms to provide a view on a subset of this larger image with correct perspective. Since each user receives a unique image, it is possible to independently define the region to be viewed.
  14. Can multiple views be displayed simultaneously from a single IPIX video camera?
Yes, a single IPIX image can be manipulated to provide multiple virtual windows looking at different parts of the scene.
